Our Crisis Evidence Lab uses cutting-edge digital investigation tools to document human rights violations remotely. It brings together digital investigators, remote sensing experts, weapons analysts, data scientists and other specialists to tell the stories of people affected by armed conflict.

The Crisis Evidence Lab ensures that information emerging from war zones is timely, accurate and useful for human rights work.

The researchers tailor verification methods to what they are investigating. Typical activities might include:

• confirming where and when a video or photo was taken
• using satellite imagery to look for tell-tale signs of attacks like destroyed buildings, craters, debris, troop or weapon movements
• analysing photos, videos and other data to verify which weapons are being used
• working with field researchers who collect testimonies that might corroborate digital evidence
• cataloguing and preserving all the original evidence, together with its verification and analysis, to ensure perpetrators are held to account.

Your donation will go to Amnesty International UK Section Charitable Trust, a charity registered in England and Wales (no 1051681) and in Scotland (no SCO39534) and a registered company (no 03139939). The Trust funds our UK and global activities to promote human rights. Funds raised for the Trust may only be spent on human rights work that the Charity Commission regards as charitable under UK law.
