'I had breakfast with Hugo Chavez, lunch with Bashar al Assad, cocktails with Putin and dinner with Gaddafi. Fidel Castro wooed me with flowers, perfume and cigars. Ahmadinejad told me he loved me. Chavez proclaimed me 'The Girlfriend of Venezuela'. But I am not a spy, and I am not a traitor.' Confidante of Tyrants is the memoir of a young US woman who gained an insider view of some of the most vilified and secretive world leaders of modern history. In the age of Trumpism, Eva Golinger's story is a personal, revealing view of the rise and fall of a strongman who promised to buck the system in favour of the masses and ended up setting the stage for the demise of democracy. Eva wandered the halls of presidential palaces, rubbed elbows with controversial world leaders, and was courted by declared enemies of her own country. She would come to know and even befriend some of these men, who so many in the world saw as tyrants. She saw them unveiled and had privileged access to Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, Vladimir Putin, Bashar al Assad, Muammar Gaddafi, Julian Assange and others.

She lived in Venezuela for 12 years and counselled several Presidents, Foreign Ministers and senior officials in Latin America and was an Advisor to Chavez for nearly a decade. Eva Golinger is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College (1994) and CUNY Law School (2003), and the author of six non-fiction books including The Chavez Code (over 500,000 sold worldwide).
