Tagua Beads

At the heart of the Amazon grows a special tree called the Tagua, which produces an extraordinary fruit, the tagua nut, used for buttons and beads for centuries. This cotton bag of mixed beads is a delight: simply hold and feel the beads run through your fingers.

Tagua nut is durable, easily carved, and even mimics the porosity of animal ivory.

A crafter's dream gift.Review by Toots Totes
I was given this bag of delights for Christmas and as soon as I tipped them out was hooked on the chunky yet silky sensation as I ran them through my fingers. intrigued at first as to how I might use them I soon found they made ideal zip pulls threaded onto a narrow ribbon and exotic embellishments adding an ethnic quality to items. With so many vibrant hues to choose from they provide just about any combination of colours you need. They make a brilliant talking point when selling handmade items - everyone is surprised to find that they are "vegetable ivory". The only snag is that I've nearly used all the contents of my bag of delights and am wondering how to make a subtle enough hint (*it's my birthday in March*)! (Posted on 01/01/2014)
